This compact apartment is located in the historic Tracery House (Burov’s House) in Moscow, which I designed together with my colleague and friend Victoriya Sidorova It includes a small entrance hall with space to store a bicycle, a living room that easily transforms into a bedroom, a compact kitchen, a bathroom, and a tiny home office on the balcony.
The goal was to create a calm, balanced interior while preserving the apartment’s original character. The restored herringbone parquet in the living room became a key element, paired with terracotta floor tiles in the kitchen and hallway. These tiles bring a subtle warmth and serve as the only accent in an otherwise neutral palette. In the bathroom, olive green tiles complement the terracotta and add a soft contrast.
The furniture is a mix of the client’s existing pieces, vintage finds, and modern additions. To echo the building’s decorative facade - part of which is visible from the kitchen - we introduced a floral motif on the bathroom cabinet doors, linking the interior to the architectural context.
